राहु (Rahu) is a Hindu deity who causes eclipses by swallowing celestial bodies. The supernatural being called raho or laho in the Philippines is connected to that belief, though with some distinctly localized elements. While Rahu is the disembodied head of an asura, the laho is thought to be a gigantic fish or whale-dragon that leaps out of the deep ocean to swallow the sun and moon.
